Last night at approximately 21:15 hours Boston Police Officers from District B-2 responded to the area of MLK Boulevard near Malcom X Park after both hearing multiple gun shots as well as numerous ShotSpotter activations on Mayfair Street, Dale Street, and 165 MLK Boulevard totaling over 30 rounds.
When officers arrived on the scene they reported seeing a number of vehicles fleeing the area, however one caught their attention, a SUV that was driving at a high rate of speed, over sidewalks, through stop signs and in an erratic manner. Officers activated their lights and sirens however the vehicle failed to stop and continued to flee the area. Officers finally were able to box the car in at the intersection of Marcella Street and Washington Street and the occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.
Officers backtracked along the flight path of the SUV canvassing the area. During the canvas Officers located a firearm in the grass area next to 95 Thornton Street, a location within the direct flight path of the motor vehicle. The firearm, a 9mm, was loaded with 5 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber, with a 31-round extended magazine. Thermal imaging was taken of the weapon to show that it was still “hotâ€, proving it was recently used and discarded. Additionally the suspects hands were placed in evidence bags in order to keep them intact for processing for gun shot residue, which is left on the skin after firing a weapon.
The operator, Lakkema Rochelle, 29, of Canton, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without FID Card, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Failure to Stop for Police and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The passenger, Lorenzo Myers, 33, of Canton, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without FID Card, and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm.
The couple were also recently charged with one count each of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug laws and reckless endangerment of a child, among other crimes after driving with their young child to a drug deal in Quincy.
Detectives and multiple K-9 assets were called in to process and search the shooting scene that span from the basketball courts in Malcom X Park down MLK Boulevard and onto Kensington Street. Almost 40 evidence markers could be seen marking spent shell casings on the sidewalks, roads and driveways of the surrounding area. Additionally damage to a home in Kensington St was found after the resident reported multiple bullet holes and bullets within their home.
At this time the investigation is still ongoing, however no other arrests have been respirated. Additionally no victims have luckily been reported either.
