On Sunday night shortly before 02:00 hours, Massachusetts State Police Troopers in the area of Mattapan Square reported hearing shots fired in the area during a traffic stop. Troopers immediately relayed the information over their radios and began to search the area. Troopers were able to spot two male subjects fleeing the area on foot and gave chance.
The suspects refused to stop for them, and were able to successfully flee the area. At the same time, Boston Police Officers from District B-3 began responding to the area after being alerted by both ShotSpotter and the State Police. Officers and Troopers were able to locate the scene of the shooting on the corner of Cummins Highway and Rexford Street in Mattapan.
Multiple spent shell casings as well as bullet fragments and projectiles were located as well as a folding knife. Officers and Troopers retraced the flight path of the fleeing suspects and were able to locate a firearm as well. While Officers were securing the scene, Milton Police began receiving calls for person shot in the area of 69 Meadowview Road less than 2 miles away from where the shots fired scene was.
Milton Police, Fire and Paramedics responded and the man was taken to a Boston Trauma Center with what were considered to be serious life-threatening injuries. Milton police were able to speak to the victim and confirm that he was shot on Cummins Highway. The vehicle that the victim was located in was frozen in anticipation of Detectives. Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, phone notifications were made with the District Detectives, Homicide Detectives, and the Crime Scene Response Unit responding to the scene.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators scoured the scene recording the numerous pieces of evidence including a firearm which with combined DNA and fingerprint evidence will lead investigators right to the perpetrators.
