EXCLUSIVE: Known Violent Career Criminal ID’ed in Stabbing of Boston Officer at Problematic Dorchester Residence

The information contained in the following article has been compiled via multiple credible sources including witnesses, neighbors, and members of the Live Boston Senior Staff familiar with the subjects and location involved in this incident. Boston Police have not confirmed the identity of the subject however after lengthy discussions with our Leadership Team and well as other involved parties including Community Leaders, the decision to publish was made in the best interest of the public. As this is an ongoing incident information may change and we will update the article accordingly.

At approximately 18:15 hours, officers responding to yet another domestic violence call at 27 Ingleside Street in Dorchester were again met with extreme violence. The female 9-1-1 caller indicated a male suspect was fighting with her and that he had multiple warrants. She indicated he was known to the police for being violent. You can listen to the full radio traffic below:

On arrival officers were met with a chaotic scene that quickly escalated, with the suspect injuring several officers, including brutally stabbing one officer in the neck. At this point Boston Police have confirmed that at least one officer discharged their firearm. Though, the suspect was also suffering from a self inflicted knife wound to the neck. The autopsy results will reveal if the gunshot wound or self inflicted neck wound were the cause of death.

The suspect and officer were both rapid transported by Boston EMS. The officer was transported with serious injuries, but is expected to survive at this time. The suspect was pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

His identity has not been confirmed, but multiple sources familiar with the address and occupants identified the suspect as Micheal Quarrles. There have been an obscene amount of domestic violence incidents at the address, and officers have previously been attacked there. In 2018 during a domestic violence call, Mr. Quarrles viciously assaulted and disarmed a female Boston Police officer who responded to the problematic home.

Following the incident Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief Greg Long, flanked by Command Staff, brief the media with basic details of the incident. To many in the Law Enforcement community’s displeasure, the department has been tight lipped about the incident. One former Boston Police Superintendent we spoke to, who asked to remain nameless, voiced frustration about the state of the department, specifically pointing to their choice to not include the excessively violent history of the suspect which up until our article had remained secret.

This was something that many people we spoke to felt should have been made public, the former Super went on to say, “the problem is there is no PC, and with out one you don’t have a voice to come out in front of the cameras and just say, ‘Guys this was a good shoot, the good guys won’ and help write the narrative for the future”.

Also notably absent from the crime scene, hospital and press conference were Acting Mayor Kim Janey, Mayor Elect Michelle Wu and D.A. Rollins. At this time we have no further information but we will update with any new details throughout the day.

UPDATE: We have received reports that incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu did eventually visit the officer in the hospital, after we posted about the absence of support for the officer by area politicians. According to sources, Acting Mayor Kim Janey has not reached out, nor have representatives from the District Attorneys Office.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Community members wanting to report any case of domestic violence, that is not occurring at the moment, may do so anonymously by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to aid or help any victim of domestic violence in an anonymous manner.
