Boston Police Bomb Squad Assist Quincy Police With Possible IED

Yesterday evening, November 9th, members of the Boston Police Bomb Squad responded to the Town of Quincy for a possible explosive device left out front of a Buddhist temple. Quincy requested Boston assets after two of their EOD canines both alerted positive to the suspicious object.

Once the Boston Bomb Squad arrived on scene, they immediately suited up one of their members in the specialized bomb suit, and began to examine the device. Through visual inspection, using a portable x-ray and eventually using a robot, the bomb technicians were able to safely investigate the device.

A portion of the device was then removed and two Boston EOD K-9‘s again alerted positive to the portion of the object. Eventually after robot inspection, the bomb technician, again in a full bomb suit, approached and inspected the internal components of the object.

Surprisingly the container only held copper pennies however it is likely that the container held some form of chemical or other material that caused the dogs to alert. At this time it is believed that the object was left as an offering to the monks at the temple rather than a malicious act. No further information is available at this time.
