South Shore Plaza Murder Suspect Arrested IN Dorchester

Police arrested the teenager accused of shooting and killing a Dorchester man at the South Shore Plaza last month.

Braintree Police, Boston Police, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Julius Hammond-Desir, 19, of Maynard, in Dorchester Wednesday morning. He was wanted for the murder of 26-year-old Dijoun Beasley.

Police said on January 22 around 3 p.m. Hammond-Desir shot Beasley in the head at close range near the Forever 21 store. Beasley was with a girlfriend and a three-year-old child when he was shot. He was rushed to a Boston hospital where he later died. Hammond-Desir fled the scene and had been on the run since.

Hammond-Desir’s arrest was being processed at the Braintree Police Department as of Wednesday morning. He’s expected to be arraigned in Quincy District Court later in the day.

Samantha Schwartz, 27, of Attleboro, has already been arrested and arraigned on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder in connection with the homicide. A not guilty plea was entered. A judge set her bail at $20,000 and scheduled a probable cause hearing for Friday. Prosecutors said she helped Hammond-Desir hide out in an apartment after the deadly shooting and brought him food.
