Boston Fire Responds to Major Hazmat Incident on Ansel Street Friday Night

On Friday April 8, 2022 at approximately 23:00 hours the Boston Fire Department responded to 11 Ansel Street, across from Boston Police District B-3 for reports of an explosion.

Upon arrival, it appeared that a fuel drum had exploded and there were several other unidentifiable drums that appeared to be unstable. Incident command activated a level two hazmat response with Boston Police Hazmat Investigators the Hazardous Analytical Mobile Response, decontamination teams and others all responding to the incident.

After a number of hours, crews were able to safely contain all the hazardous materials and the scene was made safe. No further information is available at this time and the incident remains under investigation by both Boston Fire-FIU and Boston Police-Hazmat.
