Police Respond to Possible Shooting in Dorchester, Discover Blanks Not Bullets

At approximately 00:45 hours, Saturday April 23 2022, Boston Police Officers Assigned to District B-3 responded to the area of Gleason Street and Harvard Street in Dorchester for reports of shots fired. A ShotSpotter activation for 13 rounds was received as well as numerous 911 calls reporting the same.  When officers arrived on scene, they began canvassing the area for potential victims or evidence.

Officers did not locate any victims however they found numerous spent shell casings and District B-3 Detectives were called to the scene. Officer spoke to witnesses who all described a subject letting rounds off in the area while driving down the street.

When detectors arrived, they began processing the ballistic evidence, placing cones and photographing it before collecting it. It wasn’t until further examination that it became apparent that these rounds were not live ammunition but rather blanks. At this time it is unknown what the motive was behind this reckless behavior. The incident remains under investigation by District Detectives.
